  1. Question #1
One of the main social issues is grief. In the story Phoebe (the main character) loses her brother in a bike accident. She struggles with all the emotions that she is feeling over her brother, Mick's death. Phoebe carves M-I-C-K H-A-R-T-E W-A-S H-E-R-E to remember her brother and so everyone else will remember also.
Another main social issue is depression Phoebe's mom is so shaken by her son's death that she never combs her hair, sleeps most of the day and is unorganized. It seems that she can't function without Mick.

    Question #2
In the books Wild and Mick Harte Was Here, grief is the main social issue. In the book Wild, Ryan lost his brother Kristoph in a car accident. He went through grief and wrote the best memory of him and Kristoph that they had together. He took the paper and burned it.
Ryan and Phoebe (the main character from Mick Harte Was Here) are alike because they experience death, grief and sorrow. They both have brothers that passed away. They both have the same feelings too.

Bicycle safety is another theme.Mick died because he got a head injury when he rode into a truck.Mick wasn't wearing a helmet. The book also says that only two inches of protection could have saved him.

  3. Question #1. The main social issue in Mick Hart Was Here is grief. After her brother's death Phoebe and her family had different was of dealing with their grief. Phoebe's dad wanted Mick's bedroom door kept shut because he didn't want to look in his room and remember Mick. Phoebe's mother's way of dealing with the grief she was feeling over the loss of her son was to avoid anything that had to do with Mick, and not to go on with her normal routine. She stayed in bed, didn't comb her hair or even change out of her pajama's. The family even stopped having meals together. Phoebe, her mom and her dad really struggled to get on with their lives without Mick.
Question #2. In Mick Harte Was Here by Barbara Park the main character is Phoebe Hart. She is trying to get over the death of her brother. The grief and sadness she feels makes her keep to herself.
In Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea the kids don't talk very much because they're so caught up in their guilt and sadness about Mr. Terupt's accident. In both stories the characters struggle with accepting the results of accidents.

  4. Good job Reed! I think that Jeffrey and Phoebe are both trying to deal with the death of thier siblings. I would disagree with the statement that they were both dealing with "accidents" because Jeffrey's brother had an illness. His family knew that it was always a possiblity that he would die and Phoebe's family were in shock at Mick's death because it was so sudden.
