  1. I think one of the social issues in the book Tangerine by, Edward Bloor is death. Two of the characters, Mike Costello and Luis Cruz both die. It was hard for their families to live with it. Mike Costello died because of lightning. He was holding on to a metal football goal when lightning struck the metal and killed Mike. The whole school community was affected by Mike's death. Not only was Mike's family heartbroken but also many kids in the school were too. They had a memorial service and planted a tree in Mike's memory. His death was felt by many people. Another social issue in this book is peer pressure. An example of peer pressure is when Luis died. Luis dies Arthur and Erik. Arthur hit Luis with a blackjack on command of Erik, which caused him to die. Luis was born with an aneurism. When he got hit in the head with the blackjack it caused the aneurism to burst. It was hard for Paul because Luis and him were good friends.

I think that Waiting for Normal by, Leslie Connor is similar to the book Tangerine by, Edward Bloor. These two books are similar because both of the main characters have to deal with death. Paul, in Tangerine, has to deal with death when Luis dies. Luis and Paul loved working in the groves together. Their friendship was huge as they shared memories with other people and each other. Addie, in Waiting for Normal, has to deal with death her best friend, Soula, from the mini-mart died of cancer. Addie went over to the mini-mart to Soula all the time. They shared stories and enjoyed the time they had together. Soula was like a mother to Addie because, Soula spent more time with Addie then her own mother did.

    1. I agree with you too Olivia because death and peer pressure is a big social issue in Tangerine. I also liked how you described how Mike and Luis died and about the peer pressure.

  2. The main social issues in our book Tangerine by Edward Bloor were anger, bullying and loss. Anger because Paul the main character got angry at his brother Erik because he was making fun about how Paul’s friends brother died when he got hit by lightning. Also because Paul gets angry about how he wears bug eyeglasses and people call him Mars. Bullying is a social issue because Erik bullied Paul, Paul's friend, Jack because when his brother died Jack tried to take off his shoes because he always felt better with his shoes off. Loss is a big social issue because two people died in this book and Paul was close to both of them. Mike was a football player and he died because he got hit by lightning and Luis died and he was close to Paul. Paul struggled with the loss of his friends

I think Gossamer is a little like tangerine because in Gossamer John was angry at the old women and at everything. Bullying was in both books too because in Gossamer the father, Dwayne bullied John and broke his arm. Also Dwayne bullied the mom by hitting her. Both books loss too because John lost his mom and had to go live with the old women but John gets her back in the end.

  3. First things first. One, Paul's friend is JOEY NOT JACK. where did you get Jack from? Second, Mike died because he was leaning on the goal post and lightning struck it. Since metal conduct electricity, Mike died before hitting the ground.
