  1. In the book Justin Fisher Declares War by James Preller, I think the social issue is bullying. Most of the time, when Justing is goofing off in or out of school, nobody thinks it's funny. He does not recognize he's been a bully until kids start telling him. When he slipped in the cafetorium, back in 3rd grade, his lunch got all over him, since he was a new kid, and not a lot of people knew him, he decided to be the class clown. That's how it all started for Justin. Almost all of his jokes hurt people's feelings. He's being a bully without really knowing he's been a bully. For example, Justin said " What's he, some kind of evil genius or something?" He was referring to Trey Cooper and not realizing he offended Trey. Justin said things to people that were hurtful.

This book reminds me of Out Of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper. Both of the books have kids being bullies without realizing it. In Out Of My Mind, the "normal" kids don't say hi to the disabled kids. The kids didn't realize that by ignoring the disabled kids they were hurting their feelings. In Justin Fisher Declares War, Justin bullied kids when he thought he was goofing around. Justin didn't pay any attention to the fact that kids were hurt by his "goofing around" until the middle/end of the book. In both books the bullies were unaware of how much they were affecting others.

  2. I read Justin Fisher Declares War by James Preller and I think one of the main social issues was bullying. I thought bullying was a social issue because Justin said he was just joking when he bullied kids, but the kids did not think it was a joke. Justin bullied Howie on the way to school because he said " smell you later How-Wierd". He thought it was funny to joke about the kids and he had a reputation for doing it. Then the kids did not want to invite Justin to parties and such. They did not want to risk being bullied. That leads me to my next social issue, being a bully to the kids and they did not invite him to parties and other things. At the talent show they did not want Justin to MC the talent show because they thought he would be hurtful.

I compared the social issue of bullying to Gossamer because John was bullied by Dwayne when he broke John's arm. Justin was bullying kids when he was "teasing" them but really bullying them. I compared the social issue of being left out to Out Of My Mind because both Melody and Justin are left out. Justin is left out because he bullies kids and no one want to talk to him. People don't hang out with Melody because she has a disability and can't play with the kids.

    1. I agree with you on most of those thing except for 2 of them. One, is Justin was emotionally hurting kids, without knowing it. Dwayne physically bullied/abused John intentionally. Two, is it never says in the book that Justin was left out of anything. Bu other than that, nice job.

    2. I agree with you michael because Justin bulled kids without knowing it.He just took it as a big joke like when he called Howie mean names but just thought it was funny. And for that bad reputation the kids thought Justin would say a cheesy joke like why did the chicken cross the road.I agree with that both the kids bully but dwayne hit John and Justin only made fun of people.

  3. In our group we read Justin Fisher Declares War by James Preller witch is the best book ever. The social issues in the story that I found were bullying with out realizing it and friendship.I picked bullying with out knowing because Justin was joking with Howie and then Justin started to call Howie dumb, slow and a bunch of other mean words.Justin took it like a joke and didn't realize he hurt Howie.I also picked friendship and enemies because Carly always called Justin names and Justin did the same. They call each other names because Carly thinks Justin is cute and doesn't want to show it.Then after the talent show they became friends because Justin pulled it off. Justin pulled it off by not saying cheap jokes like why did the chicken cross the road. He took his job seriously and didn't hurt anyones feelings.

    Question #2
I am comparing The Lightning Thief to Justin Fisher Declares war by James preller. The social issues in both stories that I saw was bullying without knowing. That was in The Lightning Thief because Prcey bulled people but he thought it was joking just like Justin did with Howie. Justin bullied people like Howie because he wants to be funny but can't so he goes over board with joking and the it is bullying.Like when he called Howie dumb but laughed.

  4. I read the book Justin Fisher Declares war! by James Preller. I thought that the social issue in this book was bullying. Justin didn't know it but he was bullying the other kids with hurtful words like when he called Howard How-wierd which was mean. I also thought that the kids turned on him and felt that he would ruin the talent show. Justin came to his senses and saw how everyone thought he was a big joke. Justin changed his ways and went to the library and figured out how to tell jokes without hurting anybody's feelings at the talent show.

I thought that All the Way Home had the same theme as Justin Fisher Declares War! Geraldine bullied Mariel like when Geraldine stuck her tongue out at Mariel. Geraldine did that because her mom was afraid of her daughter getting polio and told Geraldine to "get away from Mariel". In Justin Fisher Declares war! The other kids bullied Justin back when Spider-Stevens told him that they thought of him as the guy that thought everything was a big joke.

  6. I agree with your social issue, bullying. I thought you did a nice job Ryan. But I would like to know how does Justin Fisher Declares war and Percy Jackson and the lightning thief connect. I also think you should tell how Percy bullied the other kids. But other than that I think you did a nice job.
