  1. Question #1. In Bystander -by James Preller, the main social issue is bullying. Griffin bullies David Hallenback by beating him up. Griffin made up a game called Pretzel in which you beat up people. The only person who actually played was Griffin. Griffin took David by the neck and started punching him. Within the social issue of bullying is bystanding. Eric is a bystander because he does not tell an adult about Griffin beating up David. When Griffin played Pretzel, as I mentioned before, Eric didn't say anything, he just watched. He probably didn't say anything out of fear.

Question #2. In Bystander -by James Preller, Eric is a bystander. He didn't stand up for David Hallenback when David was getting beat up. Eric just stood there and did nothing. Eric never told an adult. Eric didn't say anything because he was probably scared that Griffin would beat him up if he told an adult. In Because of Mr. Terupt -by Rob Buyea, Anna is a bystander. She didn't say anything when Alexia called Danielle fat. Anna just looked at the ground. Anna didn't stand up because she probably didn't have the courage to stand up to Alexia and say "stop." Eric and Anna are similar to each other because they both are bystanders and don't stand up to bullies.

    2. Thanks Nick. Yours was also really good. I didn't use abuse as a social issue but it was a good one.

  2. Question #1. One social issue in Bystander by James Preller is abuse. Abuse is a social issue because Griffin's dad abuses Griffin and gave him a black eye. That is why Griffin bully's. Another social issue is bullying because Griffin and his gang of friends bully people like Eric and David Hallenback. When Eric went to the pet graveyard Griffin and his friends were there and they beat up Eric by kicking and punching him because he said Cody's face looks like a weasel.
Question #2. I can compare the social issue of Bystander to the social issue in Gossamer. Griffin's dad hits him like when he gave Griffin a black eye because he drinks. John's dad also drinks and hit John and made him eat dog food. I think that it would be worse to be John because at the time John was so young. But Griffinn is a lot older and his dad doesn't abuse him as much.

  3. QUESTION 1:Bullying is the main social issue of, Bystander because Eric told Griffin Cody looked like a weasel. Griffin betrayed Eric and told Cody and Cody beat up Eric because he was mad at him. Another example was when Griffin was over to Eric's house and when Eric went to get snacks Griffin snuck into Rudy's room (Eric's little brother.) and stole twenty-seven dollars from him and then he stole one of Eric's CDs. Griffin told Eric he had to go and after he stole the money and the CD.
QUESTION 2:In Bystander Eric was friends with Griffin, the bully and in the end he gets beat up by Griffin and Cody because he was friendly with Griffin and shared a secret about Cody but Griffin betrays him. In Because of Mr. Terupt Danielle thought Alexia was her friend in the begining, but Alexia bullies her by calling her fat and controls who she's friend with. Danielle and Eric are similar because they were both bullied and they both tried to be friends with bullies. The only difference is after a few tries Danielle became true friends with Alexia. Eric wasn't so lucky, because they remained enemies.

  4. Question1# One of the social issues in Bystander by Jame's Preller is bullying because. Griffin bullies David Hallenback by beating him up. Another example of bullying is when a group bullies, like when David lures Eric to the pet graveyard where Griffin and Cody were waiting to beat Eric up. Another example is when Griffin played the game pretzel with David Hallenback and the point of the game is to beat people up and Griffin did just that.

Question2# In the book Bystander, Griffins dad abused Griffin by giving Griffin a black eye when Griffins's dad was drunk. I can compare this book with John from Gossamer by Lois Lowry because. John's dad abuses John by pushing his face into dog food and gave him a broken arm when he was drunk. They are similar because both dads are alchohalics and that the reason they abuse their kids.

  5. Question 1. One main social issue in bystander by James Preller is bully ying when Griffin gives Halenback the chicken wing. Another example of bullying is when Cody and Griffin beat Eric up.
Another way bullying shows up in the story is when blackmails Eric to steal for him and Eric says no. This causes Griffin to steal his bike. Another social issue is alcoholism because Griffin's dad got drunk beat Griffin. He also stayed in his pajamas all day and only ate cereal because he was so drunk.
Question 2. In Bystander by James Preller Griffin bullies Eric and David Halenback as a result of his father abusing him. In Gossamer by Lois Lowry, John was abused by his dad and lashed out to anyone in his life because of this. They are similar because they have been abused and both react similar to the abuse. They lashed out by bullying other people.
