  1. In the book Bystander by James Preller I thought there was 2 social issues:bullying and abuse. An example of bullying was when griffin set Eric up telling Cody what Eric called him and therefore instigating Cody to beat Eric up.Another time was when Griffin bullied David at recess. He twisted his arm and teased him.I thought the second social issue was abuse because Griffin's dad abused Griffin and punched him giving him a black eye. Griffin's dad also drank a lot so that might be the reason he physically abused him.

I think Gossamer and Bystander both have the social problem abuse.Griffin's dad gave Griffin a black eye.Dwayne from Gossamer abused John by hitting him.I also think Bystander and Sister Anne's Hands also deal with the problem bullying. In Sister Anne's Hands one of the kids sends Sister Anne a bad note.In Bystander Griffin bullies David Hallenback by shoving him and using him.

  2. In the book Bystander, by James Preller, the main social issues dealt with in the book were bullying and physical abuse. The abuse in Bystander was where Griffin's Dad was a heavy drinker. One day, when Griffin's Dad was drunk, he punched him in the eye. Griffin got a black eye. The bullying part was where was where Cody, Drew .P, and Griffin all bullied David Hallenback. They called David names and teased him about being weak. Another example of bullying was when Griffin stole the bike from Eric. Griffin was upset with Eric because Eric didn't want to be friends anymore. Griffin lied about Eric having a knife in Eric's gym locker,so Eric would get in trouble. Another example of bullying is when Griffin ordered Cody to beat Eric up and so did David Hallenback.

Bystander reminds me of Gossamer, because both books deal with abuse. In Bystander when Mr. Connelly was drunk he gave Griffin a black eye. In Gossamer, Duane abused John by breaking John's arm. Also where the kids at the foster home bullied John like Griffen did to Eric and David. Also Cody and Hallenback bullied Eric physically. The abuse issue also reminds me about Eric's Dad where he was drunk and did bad things in his life and tried to hold back, but he couldn't. That reminds me of Duane because he couldn't control what he did when he was abusing substances.

  3. I agree because in Bystander Griffin's dad abused Griffin by punching him in the eye and in Gossamer Dwayne abused John by breaking John's arm. I also noticed in both of the stories both dads drank beer and took in alcohol and they both abused kids.

I also agree because Griffin bullied David by twisting his arm up and making him cry. Later in the book Griffin and David become friends. Then Eric becomes the target for the bullying. In the end Eric made new friends and it turned out fine.

  4. In the book Bystander by James Preller there were 2 main social issues, bullying and abuse. Bullying was one because Eric was being bullied by Griffin who Eric thought was his friend. The bullying started when Griffin lead Eric into a trap where Cody and David Hallenback beat Eric up. Abuse was another social issue because both Eric's father and Griffin's father were abusing their son. Eric's dad wasn't physically abusing Eric but he was yelling at Eric and getting mad at him. Griffin's father gave Griffin a black eye an Griffin's father was like the character Dywane from Gossamer because Griffin's father would go out and get drunk a lot.

Bystander is like Gossamer because Eric's dad doesn't live with him and the same thing happened with the character John from Gossamer. Both dad's were abusing their kid's and the same thing was happening with Griffin and his dad. Griffin's dad and John's dad were both hurting Griffin and John. Eric's dad and John's dad are similar because they were both yelling at Eric and John. Eric's dad was once really mad after dinner and he yelled I will clear the table so he started throwing plates and glasses at the sink. John's dad would start arguing with John and his mom because he was drunk.
