Character Traits

You've just finished reading a Social Issue Book Club book, choose a character from your book and describe two personality traits of that character.  Be sure to include two specific details from the text to support your thinking. Remember: Character traits are all the aspects of a character’s behavior and attitudes that make up that character’s personality. Every character has character traits, both good and bad. Think deeply about your character and brainstorm personality traits for your character.

In your post be sure to include:
  • Title and author of book
  • Character trait
  • Examples from text to support thinking

Example:
In the book Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea one of the main characters in Alexia.   One of her character traits is that she is mean because she bullies others.  For example, she says hateful things to others, when she is working on the project with  Danielle she tells her that she should be in charge of the food because she is so fat.  Another example is when she tells the new girl Jessica that Danielle was making fun of her so she could create a girl war.

  1. In the book Dream Sleeves by Coleen Murtagh Paratore one of the characters is Beck Aislinn's younger brother. One of his character traits is that he is kind-hearted because he always has Aislinn's back. For example, when Aislinn's dad was about to hit her Beck stood up and said that it wasn't her fault and that he shouldn't hurt her. Another example of Beck being kind-hearted is how he loves and gets along with his little sister Callie.

  2. In the book Dreamsleeves by Coleen Murtagh Paraore one of the main characters is Roe, Aislinn's dad. One of his character traits is that he is rude because he calls people names. For example, he called Mike a mean name for Italian people. Another example of Roe being rude is that he told his wife that she was as slow as a mule.

  3. In the book Dreamsleeves by Coleen Murtaugh Paratore one of the characters is Sue-Ellen. One of her character traits is that she is bossy. For example, she told Maizey and Aislinn that to be in the "in" group they would have to smoke. Another example is when Sue-Ellen kicks Aislinn out of the "in" group and she uninvited Aislinn to her pool party.

  4. I read the book Dreamsleeves by Coleen Murtagh Paratore and one of the characters is Aislinn's mom. A character trait for Aislinn's mom is passive. For example, Aislinn always tells to her mom "Can't you stick up for me?" when her dad is mad because of his drinking. Another example of the mom being passive was when the dad pushed her into the refrigerator and she didn't stand up for herself she just told Aislinn she tripped because she didn't want Aislinn to know the truth.

  5. In the book Rules by Cynthia Lord one of the main characters is Catherine. One of her character traits is that she worries a lot. She worries abut what other people will think of her. When she was with Kristi she saw a picture of a boy in Catherin's room. Catherine didn't say that he was in a wheelchair and can't talk. She cares what other people will think of her.

  7. In the book Rules by Cynthia Lord one of the main characters is Catherine. I think Catherine is timid. I say timid because when she is around Jason she hides from Kristi because she does not want Kristi to judge her. For example "And I leaned so Jason's wheel chair is between Kristi and me." Another example is when Jason asked Catherine to the dance and Catherine said no because she was scared of what other people would think of her if they saw them dancing. She thought Kristi would not be her friend anymore if Kristi saw them together.
